Running the water lines
The drains move water out on gravity. The water lines bring it in under pressure, which is a different job with a different set of things that go wrong.

PEX and copper
Most new water piping around here is PEX. It bends round corners instead of needing a fitting at every turn, which means fewer joints, and fewer joints means fewer places to leak. It also survives a hard freeze far better than copper does — it will expand where copper splits. Copper still has its place and we still run it; what matters is that whoever is doing it knows why they picked one.
Fewer fittings in places you cannot reach
The ones that matter are the joints buried in a wall or a ceiling. Running a continuous line from the manifold to the fixture puts every connection somewhere a person can get to it. That is a decision made while the walls are open and it is worth nothing if it is made later.
It gets pressure tested before it is covered
The system is brought up to pressure and watched. A joint that is going to weep shows up on the gauge long before it shows up on a ceiling.
Hard water is the North Texas problem
Water out here is hard, and hard water is why fixtures fur up, why water heaters fill with scale and quit early, and why glass doors never look clean. It is a water quality problem, not a plumbing fault, and it is fixed at the point the water comes into the house rather than one tap at a time.
Questions we get asked
Is PEX as good as copper?
For water inside a house, yes, and in a freeze it is better. It has been in the code for decades. What it is not is a licence to use fewer brackets or fewer brain cells — a bad PEX job is as bad as a bad copper one.Why does my water pressure drop when somebody runs a tap?
Usually either the line feeding that part of the house is undersized, or something is restricting it — scale, a part-closed valve, or a pressure regulator on the way out. It is worth finding out which before anybody replaces anything. The rest of the job
